Cross-country surveys and rankings

Cowley (Kan.) is # 1 for the third consecutive poll, but this is the first that the Tigers are not unanimously # 1 pollster. It doesn’t matter for the tigers who just keep rolling. Most recently, Cowley finished in a respectable fourth place in the Black Race of the Fort Hays State Tiger Open, behind just three JUCO teams in the top five in Division 1.

Mesa (Ariz.) CC achieved their highest ranking at number 2, but this time they won three No. 1 votes – three more than the Thunderbird men ever got. The Arizona CC champions recently fought impressively at the UC Riverside Highlander Invitational with four-year programs.

State of Daytona (Fla.) CC moves to # 3, the highest since # 2 in the Week 1 poll. After being the best JUCO team in the NCAA Division II Pre-National Invitational, the Falcons repeated honors in the state’s Division I Pre-Nationals Florida.

Heartland (Fig.) CC is # 4, just one point from # 3 last week. The Hawks finished second in the Greenville Classic with four top 8 individuals, led by Brair Nevills.

Remaining number 5 is Lansing (Mich.) CC. The stars were eight points behind the previous No. 4 Grand Rapids (Mich.) CC in their own Lansing Invitational.

To complete the top 10 are No. 6 Carl Sandburg (Fig.), No. 7 Grand Rapids (Mich.) CC, No. 8 Northern Iowa CC region , No. 9 Paradise Valley (Ariz.) CC and No. 10 St. Clair County (Mich.) CC. North Iowa Area, the defending champion of the NJCAA Division II, has one of the best players in Melvin Kipkemboi.
