Andy Parkinson resigned as CEO of British Rowing almost two months after Britain’s disappointing performance at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

Great Britain won only two medals in Tokyo, taking silver in the men’s four-four and bronze in the men’s eighth competition. It was the first time since 1980 that British rowers failed to win a gold medal.

Britain’s dominant run at the Games ended in 14th place on the sport’s medal table, with New Zealand topping the Olympic rowing medal table for the first time.

British Rowing said Parkinson, who held the post for six years, resigned to “explore new opportunities.”

“I also have full confidence in the team, rowers, coaches and supervisors, and I fully expect to celebrate many medal wins with the entire nation in 2024.”
