Ban Chang (Thailand), December 10th (IANS): Indian rowers put on a great show at the 2021 Asian Rowing Championships. Indian rowers reached the finals in the men’s four-man four-man and in the men’s light single-seater after finishing first in their respective preliminary races.

In the men’s lightweight individual, the Olympian Arvind Singh achieved first place in his preliminary round with a brilliant performance and secured a direct place in the final of the event, which will be held from December 8th to 12th in Rayong, Thailand.

The double-four team without helmsman Jakar Khan, Bittu Singh, Manjeet Kumar and Sukhmeet Singh took first place in the preliminary round and qualified for the final.

The easy double sculls combination of the men from Ashish Phugat and Sukhjinder Singh finished second in their preliminary round and will now compete in the hope round, hoping to take their second chance and make it to the final.

In the meantime, the Indian team of two men led by Arjun Lal Jat and Ravi has already reached the final and put the country on the hunt for at least three medals.

India has selected a team of 16 for the event. The Indian campaign is led by the Olympians Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, who won the 11th place in Tokyo. Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh won a silver medal in the lightweight double scull at the last edition of the Asian Rowing Championship 2019.

In Thailand, however, they do not compete together, as the two together could not reach the weight limit for the men’s lightweight double scull event. While Arjun has teamed up with Ravi, who is making his international debut, Arvind Singh competes in the single-seater. Both made it to the finals in their respective categories.
