Athletics trips for AARTF championships this week

SCHENCTADY, NY – A total of 15 student athletes will represent the men’s and women’s track and field team at the All-Atlantic Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th.
Day One (Wednesday, May 18)
First year Sam Ahern and second graders Allison Malatestaand Ryan Russel all will compete on the first day of AARTFC. The women’s 4 x 400m relay will also compete on the first day.
Ahern will compete in the 100m dash trials, which begin at 5:25 p.m. Ahern is seeded with a 10.91 he earned when he placed second in the Liberty League outdoor track and field championships on May 6th.
Malatesta will take part in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, which starts at 17:45. Malatesta ran a 12:09.58 at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6.
Russell runs the 5000m at 7:10 p.m. Russell qualified for the 5000m at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6 when he ran a 15:23.12. Russell also qualified in the 10000m. Russell ran a 32:26.55 at the Silfen Invitational on April 15.
The women’s 4 x 400 m relay starts at 18:15. The team consists of first graders Kasey McGerald, Gaby Bakerand second graders Glory Moncion Allen and Caroline Stanton. The relay team qualified May 6 at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 4:06.61.
Day Two (Thursday, May 19)
Senior Andrew Fuchsfirst year ben neffand Ahern will compete individually on day two of AARTFC during the juniors’ relay Aiden Rowleysecond grader Charlie Alexson, Ben Trantanella, and Neff will compete in the 4 x 800m relay. On the women’s side, the first graders Catherine Dacey, Marley Froeand sophomore year Kasey McGerald, and Moncion Allen will all compete individually. There is a 4 x 800m relay that will compete for the women and it consists of Malatesta, McGerald, Dacey and sophomore Alayna Gibson.
Dacey starts day two for Union in the 1500m. This event starts at 12:30 p.m. Dacey qualified for the event back on May 6 during the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Dacey ran 4:52.99 that day.
Moncion Allen will compete in the women’s 400 meters at 1:40 p.m. Moncion Allen ran a 1:02.99 to qualify for the May 6th Liberty League Outdoor Championships race.
Fox will also take part in the men’s 400 meter race, which takes place at 1:55 p.m. Fox earned a better qualifying time at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6th. He ran a 49.82 and finished the meeting in second pace.
McGerald will compete in the women’s 800m. This event is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. McGerald qualified for the event at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6. McGerald ran a 2:19.81.
Neff will compete in the men’s 800 meters. This event starts at 2:45 p.m. Neff ran a 1:57.21 at last weekend’s ROC City Final Qualifier.
Froe will compete in the 200 meter dash. Froe ran a 26.81 at last weekend’s ROC City Final Qualifier. This event starts at 3:35 p.m
Fox and Ahern will both compete in the men’s 200m. Ahern qualified for the April 30 race at the RPI Capital District Classic with a 22.27. Fox won his qualifier at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational on April 2nd. Fox ran a 22.37. This event takes place at 3:50 p.m
Both teams compete in the 4 x 800m relay. The women’s relay begins at 4:05 p.m. The 4 x 800m relay that will compete for the women consists of Malatesta, McGerald, Dacey and the second class Alayna Gibson.
For the men, the relay of the juniors Aiden Rowleysecond grader Charlie Alexson, Ben Trantanella, and Neff will compete in the 4 x 800m relay. It starts at 4:25 p.m
