A couple of Bromfield Acton Boxborough crews represented the team at Community Rowing, Inc.’s Fall Classic in Brighton on Saturday 18th September.

All BA-B boats achieved top ten placements; the boys’ doubles finished fourth and the girls in the steering quad finished fifth. The event – which is 11 years old but new to the team – runs over a 3-mile course on the Charles River. The early regatta kicked off the team’s first full season since autumn 2019.

Harvard-based Olympic rower Gary Piantedosi has taken on the role of BA-B head coach for the boys’ college after Brian DeDominici, who moved to Brookline. Piantedosi was happy with the trip. “We did well against tough competition, which bodes well for our chances in autumn this year,” he said.

Holly Hatton, the rowing program director and principal of the girls’ schools, thought the competition was a great way for the team to get back into the racing mindset. “The CRI course spanned the last mile and a quarter of the Head of the Charles course and provided the experience of rowing to the start line with many other boats, lining up in a row and navigating a busy circuit to deal with the overtaking situation or be passed, ”she said. “It was an excellent first-hand experience for our team. By the time they got out of the water, I could already feel a level of confidence that they didn’t have at the start, ”added Hatton.

The entire team will take part in the Textile River Regatta on the Merrimack River in Lowell on Saturday and Sunday, October 2nd and 3rd. The athletes will compete every weekend until the end of October. “We’re all looking forward to more competition,” said Piantedosi.
