Bears earn three medals in late summer
Camryn Rogers and Mykolas Alekna win gold at major competitions
BERKELEY – After a fantastic first half of the summer with four bears winning national titles for their respective countries and reaching their climax Camryn Rogers and Mykolas Alekna Several of California’s track and field athletes who won silver medals in their respective events at the World Athletics Championships competed throughout the summer and finished the month of August strong before returning to campus for the 2022-23 season.
Rogers, a Canadian, flew to Birmingham, England, where she and the Bears teammate were staying Anna purchase (England) represented their countries at the XXII. Commonwealth Games from August 4th to 6th. In the women’s hammer throw qualifying round, Rogers broke the game record with a throw of 74.68 m (243-0) and followed it with a gold medal-winning throw of 74.08 m (243-0). Purchase finished seventh with a throw of 64.73m (212-4) after covering a distance of 66.45m (218-0) in qualifying.
For his part, Alekna joined Purchase at another major competition: the European Championships in Munich, where former world champion Kristjan Čeh triumphed in the men’s discus by setting a championship record of 69.78 m (228-1) for his first senior men’s gold medal .
Two Golden Bear athletes – David Forest and Amelie Flynt – represented the United States at the U20 World Championships in Cali, Colombia (1-5 August). Foster served as the third leg of the US men’s 4x100m relay in the preliminary round, where they posted a time of 39.78; They placed third in the finals, securing a bronze medal for Foster. Flynt, the reigning USATF U20 shot put champion, hit a mark of 14.41 m (47-3.5) and finished 14thth in The Field.
