Bideford Reds dominate Appledore and Instow Regatta

Bideford Reds dominated racing days at the Appledore and Instow Regatta where they took an impressive seven 1sts, 5 2nds and one 3rd to easily win the Torridge Trophy Championship.

The men’s Senior A Four of Mark Symons, Ross Bennett, Luis Wilkins, Charlie Colwill and Cox Jess Lamont beat their B-Crew to second place, extending their lead in the race for the inaugural Men’s Championship. Symons and Bennett then teamed with Alex Rowland and Chris Thorne to win the Senior B Fours ahead of Dart Totnes and Plymouth.

To underscore their dominance in the senior men’s races, they were also convincing winners of the open eights, with Charlie Colwill, Luis Wilkins, Ricky Syvret, Adam Curtis, John Sandwell, Chris Thorne, Mark Symons and Cox’s Jess Lamont well ahead of second Place ended up Paignton.

Not to be outdone, the Reds ladies did well too, claiming victories in the Ladies Senior C fours through the efforts of Chloe Pennington, Vashti Davies, Hannah Dennis, Jess Lamont and Cox Eloise Paulin, ahead of their closest Dart Totnes rivals landed.

The Clubs Young Four of Rosalie Fowler, Brooke Copp, Ailis Temple-Thurston and Jess Pritchard were winners in the Novice Quad Fours. In the doubles scull there were wins for the junior 16 men’s team of Reuben Peart and Elliot Cornish and the junior 16 women’s pairing of Hannah Mills and Jess Pritchard.

Last weekend the Reds were in action at Stithians Lake near Falmouth where they recorded three wins, three second places and four third places. The senior men’s team of Ross Bennett, Adam Curtis, Jaxom Dunn, Glyn Brown, Ricky Syvret, Alex Rowland, James Prichard, Mark Symons and Cox Jess Lamont had a successful day with a win at the Open 8+.

It was also a win in the Senior A 4fours through the efforts of Luis Wilkins, Chris Thorne, Ross Bennett, Mark Symons and helmsman Jess Lamont. Alex Rowland traded with Ross Bennett to claim a 2nd place finish in the Senior B Fours. Rowland and Thorne then teamed with Glyn Brown and Ricky Syvret to take a close 3rd place in the Senior C 4 Fours.

The Club’s New Look Novice Four of Andy Cox, Ricky Syvret, Jaxom Dunn and James Prichard rowed well and posted a 2nd place finish. Emily Wilcox and Ailis Temple-Thurston started the day with a 3rd place finish in the Women’s Junior 16 Doubles Sculls.

The Reds’ young J14 double sculls crew of Lauren Brown and Amelia Ash took a superb 2nd place finish followed by the Junior 16 Quad Four of Kayden Batten, Elliot Cornish, Sam Peart, Reuben Peart and Grace Farrell (helmsman) . their race.
