All in all, the Brock Badgers’ run in September has seen more good than bad. Here is an overview of some outstanding badgers and the current placement as of September 2022.

All Star Badgers: September Student Athlete of the Month

Athletes for the week of September 12 were Taylor Miskolczi (#24) for men’s soccer and Grace Tawil (#21) for women’s soccer.

Miskolczi is a sophomore co-op major from Welland, Ontario and goaltender for the Badgers men’s soccer team. He started in the first two games of the Badgers season, which were back-to-back wins. Miskolczi was also named University of Ontario Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of September 19th.

Tawil, a Teacher Education major (middle high school) from Jordan Station, Ontario, is a defensive tackle for the Badgers women’s soccer team. She was recognized for her superb defensive performance in the two games against the Windsor Lancers women’s soccer team. This is her second year on the women’s soccer team. Last year she played as a freshman in central midfield.

For the week of September 19, Badgers Athletes of the Week were awarded to Paige DeNeve for women’s rugby and Reid Lunney (#47) for baseball.

Deneve is a sophomore nursing student who plays for the Brock Badgers women’s rugby team. This is her second year playing the fly-half position for the Badgers. She hails from Zephyr, Ontario. She had nine points total in the Badger’s season opener, where they won the game 28-3 against the Waterloo Warriors women’s rugby team.

Lunney plays the shortstop position for the Badgers men’s baseball. He is a sports management major from Holland Landing, Ontario. His strong and consistent play was appreciated throughout the Badgers’ first four games of the season. His most impressive performances from the stats line were the two doubles, a triple and a home run he recorded.

For the week of September 27, the Athletes of the Week were Rowan O’Neill for women’s rowing and Aidan Buis (#8) for men’s lacrosse.

O’Neill is a third-year sports management major from Welland, Ontario. O’Neill earned two first places in the Western Invitational Regatta, the opening competition for the Badgers’ rowing season: one in women’s lightweight singles and one in women’s lightweight foursomes, along with Zoe Durcak, Bella Durcak and Mia Biancaniello and helmsman Serafina Dell.

Buis, an oenology and viticulture major from Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, plays the centerfield position for the Badgers’ men’s lacrosse team. He scored a goal in a road win on Friday night against the McMaster men’s lacrosse team, then the following Saturday afternoon he had an assist and a game-winning goal against the Toronto men’s lacrosse team.

Buis was honored with the Paul Miller Lacrosse Award ahead of Saturday’s game, which recognizes dedication and perseverance for a team.

September standings for Brock Badgers

Regular-season games didn’t start for all team sports in September, but there were some notable results.

Among the Badgers teams that started the regular season in September is men’s rugby, which finished fifth in the OUA with one win and one loss. Women’s rugby ended the month in sixth place in the OUA. They had a record of two wins and two losses in October.

Brock men’s soccer ended the month third in the West with 15 points, four wins, no losses and three draws. The women’s soccer team finished fourth in the Western Conference with four wins and three losses. The Brock Badgers baseball team ended September with a record seven wins and three losses.

Both men’s and women’s rowing teams took home multiple medals from the Western Invitational regatta, including nine first places.

Overall, the Badgers have definitely won more than they lost, but currently no team leads the OUA in the overall standings. While that could change for teams like Badgers’ men’s and women’s basketball, both of whom topped last season, time will tell their story.
