“I just moved. I felt like I was flying. I suppose that was me. “

And there was one last motivational thing Isaac’s father did for him.

After his son finished seventh in the 300 hurdles at 43.18 in the Princeton section in 2019, Allen took a “WDA Mission of Mercy” label and wrote on it three times.

Isaac Albrechts father from Randolph / Cambria-Friesland wrote three numbers on a piece of paper after his son’s second season in 2019 with the sections of the WIAA Division 3 Princeton ended.

In big, bold numbers, he wrote 38.59, which was the time it took Loyals Mason Malm to win the Div. 3rd state championship.

There were two more numbers among them. On the left was 42.92, which was the fourth place Waterloo senior Spencer Noel took to advance to the state. On the right was 40.55, the former school record.

“Every day I woke up, saw the note on my door and thought about it a little,” said Isaac. “Some days I thought about it more than others.”

After last week’s sections, Albrecht said his father scrawled the bottom two times with the new ones and then circled the time that won the D3 state.

Revels said he doesn’t want Isaac to get overconfident, but he’d be surprised if he doesn’t do well after everything he’s done to get to this moment.

“If he finishes in the top three, I wouldn’t be shocked,” he said. “I would be more shocked if he went out and ran a 52. I would say, ‘Are you injured?'”
