Cross Country’s Katie Haviland was named USU’s first student athlete of the week for the American Credit Union
America First Credit Union, through its sponsorship of Student Athlete of the Week, makes a direct donation to support student-athlete scholarships.
Haviland finished 10th overall, leading Utah state number 28 to their all-time best result at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships last Friday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A native of Lehi, Utah, who crossed the finish line in 20: 05.1 – a personal best for the MW championships – won the second team’s overall league award for the second year in a row.
All five Utah state runners were in the top 19 finishes when the Aggies finished second with a team score of 73 points on the UNM North Golf Course ahead of Colorado State No. 12, which finished third with 75 points. New Mexico, the nation’s top-ranked team, took their 14th consecutive Mountain West title when the Lobos took the top 5 scoring positions and scored a perfect 15-point score.
Before Friday, the state’s best result was at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships in 2017, when the Aggies finished third on the way to their first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
The Aggies return to the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships at the Timpanogos Golf Club in Provo, Utah on Friday, November 12th. The NCAA championships will take place eight days later on Saturday, November 20, at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING FOR MEN – student in the first year Tracking liquor (Chepachet, Rhode Island) was the top runner in the state of Utah when he finished 12th with a time of 23: 50.2 and New Mexico 21st. For his efforts, Leach received both MW Freshman of the Year and the entire second team league.
SOCCER – Junior graduate quarterback Logan Bonner (Rowlett, Texas) was a 21-of-30 pass for 361 yards and four touchdowns that marked his career in Utah’s 51-31 Mountain West home win over Hawai’i. Bonner also carried the ball into play five times for 25 yards.
SOCCER – Senior midfielder Ashley Cardozo (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored the point in school history as assists in a single season in a 2-1 loss at Mountain West, Boise, Utah at the end of the regular season. Cardozo increased her assists to 11 in a single season, which was the school record set by Jessica Brooksby in 2016 when she scored the ball in the 31st Coon then scored her first college goal when her attempt from distance hit the net. Cardozo played in 81 minutes during the game and recorded one shot.
VOLLEYBALL – Second year Tatum Stall (Chandler, Arizona) helped the state of Utah break a 1-1 road record in Mountain West last weekend with a 3-2 win in San Diego and a 3-0 loss at UNLV . Against the Aztecs, Stall had 12 kills, seven trenches, one block assist and one assist when they hit 0.136 (12-6-44) in the match. Against the rebels, she had nine kills, three total blocks and two digs, and reached 0.226 (9-2-31). For the week, Stall hit 0.173 (21-8-75), averaging 2.63 kills, 1.13 digs, and 0.50 blocks per set.
