Two days before Christmas, the Giants are preparing here in week 16 to take on the Philadelphia Eagles that Sunday with a record of 4-10 and last place in the NFC East on the road. They’ll have to do without their quarterback, Daniel Jones, who hasn’t played in a 13-7 Giants win since the Eagles game on Nov. 28. The 24-year-old Jones suffered a neck injury in that game, the Giants’ last win, after losing three games.

He finished the game but took another snap and on Monday the team announced that Jones was ready for the season. In essence, this is also the team collectively. They will end their disappointing campaign against the Washington Football team at MetLife Stadium on January 9 with a record loss for the fifth consecutive year.

In a statement released by the Giants, they stated that giving up Jones was a necessity. “In the course of the last few weeks Daniel was welcomed by Dr. Frank Cammisa from the Hospital for Special Surgery and Dr. Robert Watkins of the Marina Spine Center at Marina Del Rey Hospital, ”said Ronnie Barnes, senior vice of the Giants president of medical services, who began as an athletic training intern with the Giants in 1976 and became the NFL’s first African-American head athletic trainer in 1981.

“Our medical team has continued to contact Dr. Cammisa and Dr. Watkins advised on Daniel’s condition and symptoms, and at this point Daniel has not yet been released for contact. We thought it was a wise decision to put Daniel in the injured reserve for the remainder of the season. With continued rest and treatment, we expect a full recovery. ”

Jones, in his third season after being voted number 6 by the Giants in 2019, will finish this season in 11 of the Giants’ 17 games with a stat of 2,428 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jones has been sidelined every season since he started for Eli Manning in week 3 of his rookie year. Two in 2019 and 2020.

Before the start of this season, it was practically inconceivable for a large part of the Giants fan base that the team would not exceed their overall win in the 2020/21 season of six games. Not with an extra game added to the NFL’s 2021-22 regular season schedule, increasing the number of games for each of the league’s 32 teams from 16 to 17.

Not with an infusion of talent onto the offensive ball, including signing 2019 Pro Bowl wide receiver Kenny Golladay, who led the NFL in touchdowns (11) that same year, and the appointment of dynamic wide receiver Kadarius Toney with 20th overall pick in the first round. Not with a defense led by Coordinator Patrick Graham who was playoff caliber a year ago, adding cornerback Adoree ‘Jackson, who stood out for the Tennessee Titans from 2017-2019. Jackon only played three games for the Titans last season due to injuries but was deemed healthy by the Giants and signed a three-year deal for $ 39 million in the off-season.

Golladay (3), Toney (5) and Jackson (3) were paused for a total of 11 games. Jones’ progress stagnated. Head coach Joe Judge didn’t mark himself off as a potential long-term leader of the team. General Manager Dave Gettleman will no doubt not be returning. These are just a few reasons, among many others, why the Giants will soon be running another exhausting offseason with extensive rebuilding.
