Villanova hoped senior striker Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree would somehow overcome a string of leg injuries and return to the field this season. But the reality kicked in on Wednesday night when the program announced that his college career was officially over.

The former Neumann Goretti High School standout is removed from the active list but remains on the scholarship this season. He appeared in 105 games for the Wildcats over three seasons, averaging 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Though Cosby-Roundtree’s contributions to the team seem lackluster, his influence on the program has been immense. For this reason, he will remain in a role to be determined outside the field in the program this season.

“Dhamir was an outstanding player and part of the Villanova family,” said head coach Jay Wright in a prepared statement. “He made important contributions to our 2018 National Championship team and our Big East Championship teams in 2019 and 2020. Unfortunately, the leg injuries over the past two years have been too big to overcome.”

Cosby-Roundtree’s setbacks began his last year at Neumann Goretti. The team played in Florida at the City of Palms Classic. Starting place guard Quade Green, a McDonald’s All-American who later played college basketball in Kentucky and Washington, was unavailable due to injury. There were only a handful of seniors on the team, including Cosby-Roundtree, so he felt it was his responsibility to move up. “I tried to hold the fort,” said Cosby-Roundtree.

Without Green, Cosby-Roundtree played difficult minutes in the tournament.
