FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A hometown hero on the track and at The Fort who not only coaches many athletes, but mentors everyone in life.

Coach Nolan, 62, was born and raised right in The Fort and grew up through athletics.

In addition to athletics, Nolan played basketball and football at South Side High School. He was part of the school’s school record-breaking 4×100 season at the school.

He brought his talents to the college level where he visited South Carolina State to play soccer and then later moved to Butler to play soccer and track running.

He returned to The Fort to become the head coach of the Archers’ athletics team, for which he has served for more than 15 years.

Nolan’s former athletes say he’s the type of coach who doesn’t just care about their shape, but who they become as a person.

“Coach Nolan is very passionate about the track. He’s one of those coaches who, if you come here and work and want to dedicate yourself to success, have ten toes behind you.”

Coach Nolan has a little piece of advice that he likes to pass on to his runners and that he calls “the mustard seed of faith”.

“With this mustard seed of faith, I tell the kids that you know that with a little trust you can move mountains … I cry and I said, man, good job. I was so proud … he said coach I had that mustard “seed of faith” in my shoes. That man who just set me on fire was excellent. “

What Coach Nolan prefers to see is when his Passathletes pass on what they have learned from him to their own children. He says it’s like a positive domino effect.

A legend at the fort and a guide to its athletes long after they crossed the finish line on the track.
