A total of eight alumni from Washington will travel to Prague later this month as members of the United States National Team for the 2022 World Rowing Championships.
Six huskies will row for USA in four different racing categories, while two others will serve as dodges. The regatta will take place in the Czech Republic from September 18th to 25th.
Here are the Huskies that made the US team:
One of the men (M1x): Ben Davison ’18
Women’s Foursomes (W4-): Teal Cohen ’21
Women Eight (W8+): Jessica Thoennes ’18
Men’s Eights (M8+): Chris Carlson ’19, Andrew Gaard ’19 & Pieter Quinton ’21
Alternatives: Brooke Mooney ’18 & Ezra Carlson ’16
Of the eight huskies listed, all but Cohen have previously competed with the United States senior national team. Cohen, who retired from college last spring, has rowed for her country at the U23 level and won both gold in the eights and silver in the fours at the 2021 World U23 Rowing Championships.
Davison, Mooney and Thoennes all competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, all in the eights. Chris Carlson, Gaard and Quinton have rowed at senior level in World Cup events but will be making their World Championships debuts. Ezra Carlson competed in the last full World Championship regatta which was held in 2019.
Numerous other current and former Washington rowers will also represent their countries at world championships. Once all the rosters are in place, we’ll be providing a full rundown here at GoHuskies.com.
