Florida Tech Women’s Rowing earns #3 national ranking in Coaches Preseason Poll

The Panthers start the spring campaign on March 16

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Florida Tech women’s rowing once again finds itself among the best teams in the country as they earned a No. 3 national ranking on Wednesday as the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association celebrated its annual preseason -Survey published.

Head Coach Adam Thorstad welcomes nine top athletes to his Spring 2021 roster who finished third in the NCAA National Championships and the fourth straight Sunshine State Conference Championship.

Of note is the return group for the Crimson & Gray with Abbigale Smith and Liza Lutter, a pair of first-team All-Americans.

Smith, the helmsman of the Varsity 8, has paid tribute to the Shell and guided her to many medal wins in 2021.

Lutter competed in the Varsity 8’s six and continues her rise to the top of the sport.

Three-time defending champions, the University of Central Oklahoma, were a near-unanimous choice to win their fourth straight national title. Florida Tech was joined by other SSC teams, Embry-Riddle (4) and Barry (7) while Rollins earned points.

The Lady Panthers start the spring campaign on March 16 with a scrimmage against Stockton University.
