Illinois finishes second at the Walt Crawford Open

CHAMPAGNE, Ill. – Men’s and Women’s Fighting Illinois Cross Country started their season Friday afternoon when both teams finished second in the Walt Crawford Open at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. The Illinois had two top-five finishes, with a newcomer Margaret Gamboa take home second place in the women’s 5km run (17: 39.62) and Eddie Lennon Fifth place for the Illini in the men’s 8 km run (25: 19.05).

In the women’s category, four Illinois landed in the top ten (Margaret Gamboa, Caroline Fix, Katie High, and Brianna Lausev), while all seven ended up in the top 15. A real newbie, Gamboa finished second in her first college race with the oranges and blues. There were two top-five finishes in the men Eddie Lennon and Michael Madiol, while all five participants ended up in the top 16.

The Illinois will be off competition for the next two weeks before traveling to Illinois for the Redbird Invite on Friday, September 17th.
