Men’s and women’s crew teams will host the Touchdown Regatta on October 30th
ITHACA, NY – Ithaca hosted crews from Hobart and William Smith, Mercyhurst, RIT, Cornell Heavyweight Men and Cornell Club from the Cascadilla Boat Club Race (Individual) Fashion on Saturday October 30th. There were two flights that enabled individual athletes to start twice in different line-ups.
Flight number one included 51 grenades in two, two, four and eight women. Among the highlights for Ithaca were the 8s of the two college men, who finished first and third out of seven 8s. They finished off rival RIT, who finished second. Ithaca also won the Ladies 4 ahead of William Smith and Mercyhurst.
29 shells, all 4s or 8s, returned to the water for flight two. The men’s competition was dominated by the Cornell heavyweights, but the Ithaca Varsity finished sixth out of 13. The Bomber Women’s University 8 rowed the fastest women’s time of the day, winning the 8-man competition in front of seven other crews.
Regatta Notes – A heavy rainstorm three days before the competition left Cayuga Lake in the flood stage and the regatta in doubt. The Ithaca and Cornell staff worked diligently to clear debris and set the course in place. We are grateful for that! It was the last Ithaca competition for the autumn rowing season.
The next race of the bomber is the Cayuga Duals on the same water on April 2nd, 2022. Full results and lineups can be found here Here.
