Men’s row No. 12 closes day one at IRAs

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – Boston University’s No. 12 men’s rowing team ended the first day of competition with two boats advancing to the AB semifinals at the IRA Championship on Lake Mercer.

All three Terrier boats put to sea twice on Friday, with second team eight and third team eight winning their respective afternoon repechage races. The college eight-boat almost did it by setting the third-fastest time out of 15 teams, but finished second in the fourth and final hopeful run to reach Saturday’s CD semifinals.

The second Uni Eight boat passed Matt Murphy and caressed Harrison Steck missed out on direct promotion to the AB semifinals with a fourth-place finish in the morning heat, but came back later in the afternoon with a winning time of 5:45.644 to beat second-place Northeastern by eight seconds.

The third boat from Uni Eight passed peter adams and caressed Owen Loeb finished third in his morning heat and later added the day’s second first place finish with a repechage winning time of 5:47.959 to beat Penn by three seconds.

In the first race of the morning, the Uni Eight boat passed William Mulhall and caressed Bowen de Gouw posted a time of 5:51.500 for third place and finished second later that afternoon in 5:36.604, missing an AB semifinal spot by three seconds to Navy.

Saturday starts with the 2V8 race in its AB semi-final at 9:00 am with the 3V8 race at 9:30 am. The V8 ends the day at 9:40 am in its CD semi-final.
