Men’s Utah State Cross Country in top 10 in Week 3 regional rankings

Logan, Utah- The Utah State men’s cross country team ranks 6th in Week 3 of the NCAA DI Cross Country Regional Rankings released Monday by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In the women’s race, the Aggies fell six places to 12th in the mountain region.

BYU relegated Northern Arizona to first place in the men’s mountain region after the Cougars’ head-to-head victory over the Lumberjacks last Saturday at the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by the state of Oklahoma.

After BYU and NAU, places three through seven remained unchanged. Colorado is third, Air Force fourth, Montana State fifth, the Aggies sixth and Utah Valley seventh.

Along with the Aggies and Falcons, four other Mountain West schools are in the region’s top 15 in Colorado State (8th), Wyoming (9th), New Mexico (10th) and Nevada (11th).

There was quite a shake up from the top down to No. 15 on the women’s side. Northern Arizona rose 10 spots from 11th to 1st after taking second place at the nationally loaded Cowboy Jamboree. The Lumberjacks beat former No. 1 Colorado (now fourth), former No. 2 BYU (now third), and former No. 5 Utah Valley (now sixth).

Utah, previously ranked 4th, moved up to 2nd after winning last Friday’s Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota.

The only team to remain unchanged in the top 15 was Wyoming, which remained in 7th place. Air Force was unranked a week ago but now finds itself at #8. Colorado State (down two at No. 5) and Nevada (down one through No. 13) were the other two schools from the MW to join the Cowgirls, Falcons and Aggies in the region’s top 15.

Regional leaderboards are subjectively determined by a single member trainer in each region. The regional representative is tasked with balancing the strength of the returning teams against current season results (if applicable) to determine a ranking of roster potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. Teams with provisional status within the region may be ranked.

The Aggies will return to action on Friday, September 30 in the Lehigh hosted Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
