DePaul volleyball assistant coach Nick Vogel has been selected to assist U17 and U18 athletes in the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program (NTDP) summer training series in Anaheim, Calif., Jan.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected to train these elite young women who are the future of our US women’s national team,” Vogel said in a statement to DePaul Athletics. “Team USA has always had a very deep place in my heart and the ability to work with this program while the senior team in Tokyo is hunting for gold gives me a special meaning.”

Vogel played volleyball at UCLA from 2009 to 2012. From 2009 to 2014 he also appeared in the US men’s national team. He played professionally with teams in Europe, including VfB Friedrichshafen, which he helped to win the German Cup and the Bundesliga championship.

Vogel retired from professional sport in 2015 and began his coaching career for a year at his alma mater before becoming an assistant coach at UC San Diego. He started coaching at DePaul in 2018.

Formerly known as the USA Volleyball High Performance Program, the NTDP trains and prepares young athletes to play volleyball at a high level.

“I’m very excited to be going to Anaheim, to the same gym where countless Olympians have trained to work hard every day to improve one another,” said Vogel.
