No. 11 men’s rowing defeats No. 18 Oregon State, falls to No. 3 Cal. in Pac-12 Challenge
REDWOOD CITY, California – Boston University’s No. 11 men’s rowing team shared four races Saturday on day one of the Pac-12 Challenge at Redwood Shores.
The Terriers finished the day with victories in the varsity eight and second varsity eight races against No. 18 Oregon State after losing both morning races to No. 3 California. Due to the different start and finish times of the officials, the event organizers were only able to specify exact finish limits for the afternoon race.
The varsity eight being petted by seniors Harrison Steck and coxed by sophomores Matt MurphyHe finished the 2,000-meter dash four seconds ahead of the Beavers. Senior helmsman William Mulhall and freshman stroke seat Bowen de Gouw helped the second varsity eight to an open water win ahead of Oregon State by 17.1 seconds.
Earlier in the day, the varsity eight finished the course with a time of 5:54.2, with Cal taking first place with a 5:35.75. The second varsity eight clocked a time of 5:55.54 while the Golden Bears finished the course in 5:45.21.
BU wraps up the Pac-12 Challenge tomorrow against No. 2 and defending champion Washington. The varsity eight races at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by the second varsity eight at 1:10 p.m. ET.
