Olympia: Weightlifter Mirabai starts training, shooters, rowers land in Tokyo

Tokyo:

On Saturday, Mirabai was seen in a high-intensity training session lifting weights with a mask on her face and trying to work on her tear lift.

In a short video from the Indian Sports Authority, her trainer Sharma praises and encourages her to do the lifts well. The 26-year-old is considered a big medal contender in the 49 kg class of women.

Mirabai will try to make up for a disappointing show at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Mirabai’s event takes place on July 24th, one day after the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Indian rifle team landed in Tokyo on Saturday. The 15-man squad ended up in Tokyo with coaches and supervisors after leaving their training base in Zagreb in Croatia via Amsterdam.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) posted a tweet about the arrival of the shooting team in Tokyo for the Olympics. The roster consists of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Abhishek Verma, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, Anjum Moudgil, Apurvi Chandela, Deepak Kumar, Divyansh Singh Panwar, Elavenil Valarivan, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat, Sanjeev Sawant and Yashaswini Singh Deswalaswini Singh.

The shooting events begin on July 24th with 10m air rifles for women and 10m air pistols for men.

Athletes from various disciplines have already arrived and started training. The rowing team Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh also reached Tokyo on Friday and are training for their event, the men’s lightweight double sculls.

Before them the sailing team of Varun Thakkar, Ganapathy Chengappa, Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan had arrived and started their training sessions. The sailing competition starts on July 25th.
