Programming records are at stake as Lady Demons visit Islanders
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Northwestern State Football Weekend is highlighted with the opportunity to challenge the numbers in the all-time record book.
Sunday, NSU (3-3-2, 3-0 SLC) ends its first road trip to the Southland Conference with the chance to get the best conference start in program history against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-4-1, 1st) -0-1 SLC) – a mark set just six months earlier in the spring 2021 season.
Reigning Southland Goalkeeper of the Year Acelya Aydogmus is able to leave her mark on the NSU best lists, as she set the program record for career exclusions among former Lady Demon holders. A shutout streak of four games by NSU defenders pushed Aydogmus ‘record to 19, building on Tiffany Swinglers’ record in 2002.
Aydogmus has made 11 parades since the beginning of the Conference Play and has not allowed a goal since August 29thNS against No. 23 Reis.
Despite the chance to set new records, the Lady Demons continue to focus on what they can control.
“This team is doing a great job removing distractions on the road and keeping an eye on what’s important,” head coach Stuart Gore called. “Instead of distracting themselves, team building exercises and learning keep the team informed. Your focus is really something.”
Junior striker Olivia Draguicevich took command of the NSU attack after scoring a goal in three games in a row. She now leads the Lady Demons with three goals and two assists since the conference’s opening game against southeast Louisiana on September 10th.
NSU currently maintains a 4-3-1 lead all-time in the series against Corpus, however the Islanders have gained a foothold against the Lady Demons after playing three of their last five games since 2016.
Kick-off is at 1 p.m. in the Dr. Jack Dugan football and athletics stadium planned.
