LOS ANGELES – Trevelin Queen’s dream of playing in the NBA is still alive.

On Tuesday night, the former NM State basketball star announced in an announcement from his agent that he would be taking a seat at the Los Angeles Lakers training camp.

The partially guaranteed training camp deal makes Glen Burnie, Md., One of 19 players currently on the Lakers’ training camp list. At the training camp with one of the NBA’s most famous franchises, Queen will compete alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo and countless others.

Queen’s place on the Lakers training camp list likely came after the Guardian twisted his head in the organization during his NBA summer league stint with the club. In five games with the Lakers Summer League squad, Queen averaged 13.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 0.6 assists in 19.0 minutes per game. The athletic guard has put down impressive shooting splits of .480 / .538 / .846 during his time in the Purple and Gold.

In the Lakers’ final NBA Summer League fight on August 17, Queen brought the team back from a 17-point deficit against the Golden State Warriors with 21 points, five rebounds and four steals.

One of the most exciting players to ever appear for the Aggies, Queen helped NM State score 55-11 (0.833) during his two-year stint at Las Cruces. That record included an incredible 31-1 (.969) mark in the regular season games of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Individually, Queen topped the Aggies charts in the 2019-20 campaign in points (13.2 ppg) and minutes per game (27.5). Additionally, the Guardian averaged 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while pitching shot splits of 0.471 / 0.387 / 0.814. This enabled Queen to earn laurels at the end of the All-WAC Second Team, NABC District Six Second Team and USBWA All-District VIII Team campaign.

Queen’s road to NM State fame began in 2018-19 as a spark plug from the bank for the Aggies. Queen caught fire and broke out for the top 27 NM State career points to help the Aggies tear the Lopes apart. As a result, he was named Most Valuable Player of the WAC Tournament.

With Queen by their side in 2019-20, NM State put down the first 16-0 run in the WAC game in league history, which was a large part of the 19-game winning streak the Aggies wrapped up in the Season started.

Queen and the rest of the Lakers will open training camp for the 2021-22 NBA season tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. MT. For Queen, there are numerous options on the table that will create the Lakers roster for the 2021-22 season, earn a spot with the South Bay Lakers (the G League subsidiary of the Los Angeles Lakers) or a two-way contract with the Club could complete.
