Rowing continues Fall Slate at the Head of the Grand

EAST LANSING, Michigan (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will participate in the Head of the Grand Saturday, October 16, in East Lansing, Michigan. The races take place at 8 a.m. on the Grand River and are hosted by Michigan State University.

The Eagles have not raced at the Head of the Grand since the 2019 season, which saw the Green-Whites finish third or better in all races. Additionally, Eastern took the top spots in the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four races in the Head of the Grand, and defeated Michigan State for the program’s first win over a Big Ten opponent since 2008.

The EMU has close ties with the state of Michigan as an assistant coach Nicole Marek and Annie Cantu were outstanding student athletes on the Spartan rowing team. Marek was an All-Big Ten selection and CRCA All-American Honorable Mention while with the Spartans. Her 6,000 and 2,000 times rank among the program’s top 10 records. Cantu rowed on Team First Varsity Eight for the past three seasons. A native of Plano, Texas, he received academic honors at the 2018 Spartan Excellence Gala.

The Green-Whites start the day with the Varsity Four races at 9:30 am and the Novice Four at 10:30 am
The EMU starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Varsity Eight and at 12:30 p.m. in the Novice Eight
