Women’s Athletics: Macalester takes third place, Grosse and Blaesing set records

COLLEGEVILLE, Minnesota – The Macalester College women’s track and field team traveled to Collegeville on Saturday to attend the St. John’s/Saint Benedict Alumni Meet. The Scots finished third at the meeting.

Senior Hannah Great (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Coon Rapids) put in an impressive performance in the pole vault, clearing 3.46 meters (11′ 4.25″). Her performance set a new Macalester record and smashed her old record of 3.40 meters (11 ‘ 1.75″). which she discontinued in 2020. Also in the junior section Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) won the triple jump and sophomore year Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, Tennessee/St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School) placed third in the long jump.

On the course, another Scot set a new meeting record. second grader Maria Bläsing (Munster, Ind./Munster) took first place in the mile race with a time of 5:16.19. The previous meeting record was 5:16.95, set by Lauren Rice in 2016. Third place for the mile was a sophomore Sylvia Green (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) with a time of 5:38.29 while a sophomore Maggie Glad (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King International School) placed fifth.

In the junior 4x400m relay Sarah Gregory (Bloomington, Minnesota/The Blake School), first year Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and fellow students Blaesing and Hobby finished second. Junior Erin Franke (Chicago, Illinois/Northside College Prep) placed third in the 3000-meter dash as a senior Danielle Freshwater (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) finished fourth.

The Scots return on Friday February 4 when they host the Macalester Invitational. The meeting starts at 5:00 p.m
